Description

AGREEMENTS/CONTRACTS

9. APPROVAL OF THE CONTRACT BETWEEN WJK EDUCATION CONSULTING AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA

Description
The district currently contracts for leadership and professional development services to support Sarasota County's Leadership Academy, the ExCEL leadership program and other related training programs. Additional services are necessary to provide professional development training sessions for our charter school leaders. This contract together with other department contracts, increases the aggregate dollar amount and requires School Board approval. Grant funds will be used to cover the leadership development services.

That the contract between WJK Education Consulting and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida be approved as presented.

Description
The School Board offers to enrolled students a Veterinary Assisting program and Veterinary Neuro Services d/b/a Critical Vet Care manages a veterinary/animal care facility.  The School Board desires to provide to its students a clinical learning experience through the application of knowledge and clinical skills in a veterinary/animal care facility and Veterinary Neuro Services d/b/a Critical Vet Care has agreed to make its facility available to School Board for such purposes.

In accordance with Florida Statue, the district operates a full-time online educational option for eligible students in grades K-12. The district manages all school functions with the exception of providing the direct instruction of students. K-12 Florida, LLC provides instruction for students in grades K-8 and for selected students in grades 9-12. The contract for the provision of services for the 2016-2017 school year is submitted for approval.

Description
In accordance with Florida Statute, the district operates a full-time online educational option for eligible students in grades K-12. 14. APPROVAL OF THE LITERACY HUB GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE DOLLAR GENERAL LITERACY FUND FOR EMMA E. BOOKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $15,000 will provide books and instructional materials to support student and adult literacy and Parent and Child Together (PACT) programs at Emma E. Booker Elementary School.

15. APPROVAL OF BOOKER HIGH JROTC CADETS TO ATTEND ORIENTATION AT UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN GEORGIA AND TRAINING AT US ARMY MOUNTAIN RANGER CAMP IN DAHLONEGA, GEORGIA ON APRIL 7-10, 2016

Description
This field trip is post high school transition, college orientation as well as Army orientation with team building skills.

That the field trip for Booker High JROTC Cadets to attend orientation at the University of Northern Georgia and training at US Army Mountain Ranger Camp in Dahlonega Georgia on April 7-10, 2016 to be approved as presented.

16. APPROVAL FOR PINE VIEW'S HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTIC STUDENTS TO ATTEND THE VEX ROBOTICS WORLD TOURNAMENT IN LOUISVILLE KENTUCKY ON APRIL 19-24, 2016

Description
This is the world level competition for VEX Robotics where students that competed at the state level were advanced to the next level taking place in Louisville, Kentucky.

Recommendation
That the field trip for Pine View's high school robotics students to attend the VEX Robotics Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky on April 19-24, 2016 be approved as presented.

17. APPROVAL FOR BOOKER HIGH'S VISUAL PERFORMING ARTS DANCE STUDENTS TO ATTEND BROADWAY DANCE CENTER IN NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK ON MAY 10-13, 2016

Description
Seniors will be learning how to work as a dancer in New York, including where to go for classes, learning about the different dance companies and watch professional performances.

Recommendation
That the field trip for Booker High's Visual Performing Arts dance students to attend Broadway Dance Center in New York City, New York on May 10-13, 2016 be approved as presented.

18. APPROVAL FOR RIVERVIEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO ATTEND THE NATIONAL HISTORY BOWL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN WASHINGTON DC ON APRIL 21-25, 2016

Description
The National History Bowl uses historical material to create contextual and inferential questions which test and strengthen a students historical knowledge. These students, enrolled in Advanced Placement History classes, get to apply their knowledge and compete against the best and brightest in the country.

Recommendation
That the field trip for Riverview High School students to attend the National History Bowl National Championships in Washington DC on April 21-25, 2016 be approved as presented.

Bids to provide 'Custodial Floor Cleaning Equipment' were received from eight vendors on February 10, 2016. The bids of Buckeye - Tampa, Dade Paper Company, Faitella Enterprises, Gem Supply Company, Pyramid School Products, Resource One, Inc., Veritiv Operating Company, and West Florida Supply Company were the best low bids meeting the advertised specifications. This bid is for a period of one year with an option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the transfer from capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.

The bid of Terry's Plumbing Service was non-responsive to the requirement of submitting a bid bond as required in the bid specifications. This bid is for a period on one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the transfer from capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.

CONSTRUCTION

24. APPROVAL OF THE EXLCUSIVE UTILITY EASEMENT AT VENICE HIGH SCHOOL BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA AND THE CITY OF VENICE

Description
This easement will provide an easement for the water main for the installation, maintenance, and servicing of the potable water main. This easement has been approved by the School Board attorney.

25. APPROVAL OF RANKING OF CERTIFIED AND QUALIFIED ENGINEERING FIRMS FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING SERVICES-MINOR PROJECTS FOR A PERIOD OF THREE (3) YEARS

Description
The scope shall be to provide civil engineering services for minor projects, district-wide, as assigned. These projects are defined as those with a construction cost of less than $250K and consultant fees of less than $25K. On 2/19/2016, the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) met to select certified and qualified engineering firms for this continuing services contract. The PSSC has ranked them in accordance with School Board Policy #7.71. The estimated cost of these services for the three (3)-year period is $250,000.00.

Recommendation
That the ranking of certified and qualified engineering firms for Civil Engineering Services - Minor Projects, for a period of three (3)years, be approved as presented, and the Director of Construction Services be authorized to attempt negotiations with the three (3) top-ranked firms.

26. APPROVAL OF CONTRACTS WITH ALL FOUR (4) RANKED FIRMS FOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING SERVICES, STRUCTURAL ENGINEEING PLAN REVIEW AND THRESHOLD BUILDING INSPECTION SERVICES FOR A THREE (3)-YEAR PERIOD

Description
The scope shall include structural engineering services, structural engineering plan review and threshold inspection services for Sarasota County Schools for a period of three (3) years. The Director of Construction Services and one (1) member of the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) met with representatives of [1] Hees & Associates, Inc., [2] TRC Worldwide Engineering, Inc., [3] Wilson Structural Consultants, Inc. and [4] Biller Reinhart Engineering Group, Inc., and successfully negotiated individual contracts. These contracts have been approved by the School Board attorney and are available for review at the Construction Services Department. The estimated cost for these services for the three (3)-year period is $150,000.00. Funds are available for these services through individual project accounts.

Recommendation
That the contracts with all four (4) ranked firms for Structural Engineering Services, Structural Engineering Plan Review and Threshold Building Inspection Services for a three (3)-year period be approved as presented.

27. APPROVAL OF CONSTRUCTION MANAGER RANKINGS FOR THE VENICE MIDDLE SCHOOL-HVAC RENOVATION AND BUILDING UPGRADE PROJECT

Description
The project's scope of work shall include construction management services for replacement of the complete HVAC system and the renovation of all affected spaces on the Venice Middle School campus. The project will be multi-phased. On 2/4/2016, the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) met to select a construction manager for this project. The PSSC has ranked them in accordance with Board policy. The project budget is approximately $12,500,000.00. Funds for this project are available in the capital account.

Recommendation
That the rankings of Construction Manager for the Venice Middle School - HVAC Renovation and Building Upgrade project be accepted as presented, and the Director of Construction Services be authorized to attempt negotiations with the top-ranked firm.
